This small neighborhood Cabeza de Toro is located between Punta Cana and Bavaro and is unique as the only beachfront spot between these two major centers. The airport is less than a 15-minute drive away.
The Bavaro Lagoon covers most of its territory, almost two-thirds of it. This protected natural reserve is home to rich biodiversity, including birds, reptiles, fish, and over 200 types of plants, some of them are endemic. This peaceful wildlife sanctuary is ideal for eco-tourism, with its surroundings of mangrove forests creating a quiet, nature-focused environment.
Activities in the area include birdwatching (with 86 species, 8 of them endemic), kayaking, hiking, scenic boating, and sport fishing. The entrance to the reserve is almost in front of Dreams resort, which is also close to craft shops and local restaurants.
Currently, Cabeza de Toro is mostly a hotel area, with very few residential properties available. Recently, however, some developers have acquired land to build new projects. The beach, sheltered within a bay, keeps the ocean calm year-round, even during storms, making it especially good for families with children. A large coral reef here—the biggest along the coast—draws surfers, divers, and fishers. Fresh fish markets nearby are popular among locals from surrounding areas, where they can buy the day’s catch. With only a few hotels and even fewer residential complexes, the beach and nearby areas stay quiet, with some wild beaches just a short walk away for a natural escape with no buildings or loud music.
Cabeza de Toro is close to Downtown Punta Cana, so residents can quickly reach supermarkets, shopping, restaurants, and other amenities—often faster than from Bavaro and without dealing with traffic.
